ABOUT ME
CERTIFIED TRANSLATOR AND INTERPRETER
I am Giorgina Cerutti, a certified English-Spanish translator and interpreter with 15 years of experience, based in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Since 2011, I have worked with individuals, professionals, companies, embassies, translation agencies, academic institutions, and international organizations.
I provide certified translations between English and Spanish, non-certified translations from French to Spanish, and interpreting services between Spanish and English or French. My work primarily focuses on the legal, economic, institutional, and academic fields.
INTERNATIONAL TRAINING
I am a certified English-Spanish translator, with a degree from the University of the Republic (Uruguay), and hold a PhD in Translation Studies from the University of Geneva (Switzerland). At the University of Geneva, I also completed a master’s degree in Translation with a specialization in Translation Technologies, with English, French, and Spanish as my working languages.
I also hold a Master's degree in Creative Writing from Pompeu Fabra University (Spain). This training has particularly enriched my writing and editing skills: it allows me to produce clear, precise, and natural texts, tailored to their audience and purpose.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
My career includes an internship in terminology at the United Nations Office in Geneva, an assignment as a temporary translator at the United Nations Office in Vienna, and subsequent collaborations as a freelance translator. Since 2022, I have also translated for the World Trade Organization and, in 2024, I worked as a temporary translator at its headquarters in Geneva.
In addition, I coordinate ReMeTIS, the online doctoral school of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting at the University of Geneva, where I also teach a module on corpus linguistics.
I am registered with the Supreme Court of Justice, I am a member of the Uruguayan Association of Certified Translators (CTPU) and I serve on its Board of Directors.
A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AS WELL
I know what it means to build a life far from home. I lived abroad for eight years, and when the time came, I chose to return to Uruguay and settle in Punta del Este. That experience has shown me that behind the documents I translate, there is much more than paperwork: there is a relocation, a new chapter, family decisions, and the challenge of starting over in another country.
Therefore, I find it especially rewarding to support those who decide to make Punta del Este and Uruguay their new home, and help them through this part of the process in a clear and approachable way.
WORDS AS A CRAFT
Besides being a translator, I am a writer. Writing represents my most creative side and, at the same time, enriches my linguistic work: it has taught me to recognize each voice, to pay attention to the nuances, and to always seek the most precise and natural way to express an idea.
Whether translating a document or writing a story, I work with the same conviction: words matter because they accompany decisions, preserve experiences, and allow us to build bridges between people, languages, and places.
