An intimate account of the tensions between memory and change, evoking the transformative journeys and dilemmas of those who dare to cross borders.

"She grabbed her suitcase and walked towards the cabins. She told herself it didn't matter that no one was seeing her off. On the other side of the Atlantic, someone was waiting for her."

Ona ventures into the unknown, the New World, the uncertainty of all that remains unnamed. This journey will also entail self-discovery, exploring and reshaping her identity. This work intertwines individual and collective memory. How can one piece together a history that is both one's own and that of others? A Lithuanian community settles in Villa del Cerro and creates a community where none existed before. A family legacy, a recovered memory that spans generations.

In her debut novel, Giorgina Cerutti reconstructs the journey of her ancestors—migrant women, women destined for an unknown fate—a portrait that emerges from the family archive: letters, photographs, stories passed down and inherited, becoming a chronicle. She does so with meticulous care, where form and content are on equal footing, weaving together the threads of memory through colors, sounds, landscapes, silences, and strong yet subtle bonds. Rootedness and uprootedness, languages and bonds intertwine. It is a work that offers a unique perspective and dares to explore the realms of intimacy, transforming them into history.
